Kai Schumacher - "Beauty in Simplicity" & "Insomnia" (Excerpts)

Kai Schumacher: “Beauty in Simplicity”
With “Beauty in Simplicity,” pianist Kai Schumacher combines contemporary piano music,
immersive visuals, and 3D audio into a fulldome concert experience that oscillates
between meditation and mania.

Masterpieces of Minimal Music, such as Steve Reich’s Electric Counterpoint, meet their
classical predecessors and pop-cultural heirs. Using the grand piano as a fully analog
synthesizer, Kai Schumacher applies sound modulation and processing to the most classical
of instruments, creating hypnotic soundscapes that exist somewhere between drum machines
and a wall of sound.

“Remarkable how much tonal variety Schumacher extracts from his instrument. At times,
it sounds like one vast sonic laboratory.”
(NDR Kultur)

“Kai Schumacher seeks beauty in simplicity. And his sophisticated arrangements
show that ‘simple’ does not mean ‘simplistic.’ Quite the opposite.”
(BR Klassik)

“Personal and intense, delicate yet with an overwhelming pull.”
(Galore)
